Once a data disaster has taken place it is vital that the PC or server is immediately closed down to prevent damage occurring to the data that needs to be recovered. Do not power the equipment down normally, but immediately remove the power source by switching off at the equipment, wall socket or, in the case of a laptop, the battery.
